Art takes various forms, with each artist presenting a unique vision shaped by their personal experiences and perspectives. Ansku Lehtovaara is one such artist, whose creative journey spans diverse fields, including accounting, nursing, and comic book illustration. Her art celebrates the beauty of nature, the intricacies of science, and her commitment to sustainability. Through vibrant colors, recycled materials, and natural elements, Ansku creates pieces that inspire reflection and curiosity about the natural world.
From Bookkeeping to Art.

For over 14 years, Ansku worked as a professional bookkeeper alongside her husband at the same company. Although she enjoyed working with him, in 2017, her husband left accounting to pursue a career as a pilot, seeking new fulfillment. This change prompted Ansku to reevaluate her own path. Although leaving bookkeeping was challenging, she recognized it wasn’t her true calling.
Her husband’s new career brought a sense of adventure into their lives. Ansku often accompanies him on flights, sometimes sitting in jump seats or the cockpit. While these experiences can be uncomfortable, they are thrilling and enrich her view of the world.
As she explored her interests, Ansku’s long-standing fascination with the human body and its intricate workings guided her toward healthcare. She has now spent eight years working as a nurse, nearly seven of which have been dedicated to the operating room. Her role as an operating room nurse is demanding yet deeply rewarding, allowing her to witness and contribute to life-changing transformations.
Embracing Unique Materials and Techniques.

Art has always been integral to Ansku’s life. Her journey began at 17 when she studied comic book drawing in high school. Over time, her artistic pursuits evolved, inspired by her love for nature and interest in science. Currently, she is expanding her knowledge through an art program at Lapland University, where she explores new techniques and media.
Ansku’s artistic style reflects her fascination with the interconnectedness of nature and science. She works with materials like shellac inks for their vibrant colors and repurposes items such as medicine vial caps, which she has collected over three years from her hospital. Her use of natural materials, including wool, lambswool, and metal wiring, adds depth and dimension to her pieces.
What makes Ansku’s work even more distinctive is her unique perspective—she has vision in only one eye, which influences her perception of depth and color. This subtle yet profound aspect shapes her art, creating works that resonate with viewers on multiple levels.
Vision and Artistic Aspirations.

Looking ahead, Ansku envisions completing her studies while nurturing her innovative “vial cap” art series, transforming everyday medical waste into thought-provoking pieces. Her work aims to inspire people to consider the science behind nature—how its systems operate in harmony and how humanity fits into this grand design.
For Ansku, art is more than a medium of expression; it is a way to connect with others and share her unique view of the world. She encourages aspiring artists to embrace their individuality, explore bold ideas, and create pieces that reflect their true selves.
Through her dedication to originality and her passion for nature and science, Ansku Lehtovaara demonstrates the transformative power of art in fostering curiosity, understanding, and a deeper appreciation for the world around us.
